RumSFelD: My Rules for Life (10th in a series) DOING THE JOB IN THE WHITE HOUSE (Part 1of 4)

--> Note that all quotes titled"rumsfeld sez" comes from a document he created in 2001, entitled, "My Rules for Life" (see bottom of post for original source)

<-- $$$ Rumsfeld Says $$$
Your performance depends on your people. Select the best, train them and back them. When errors occur, give sharper guidance. If errors persist or if the fit feels wrong, help them move on. The country cannot afford amateur hour in the White House.
*** Markbnj says ***
AND we ALSO can't afford self centered, ISOLATIONISTS, who DON'T LISTEN to the country.
<-- $$$ Rumsfeld Says $$$
− You will launch many projects, but have time to finish only a few.
So think, plan, develop, launch and tap good people to be responsible. Give them authority and hold them accountable.
*** Markbnj says ***
PERHAPS you should finally HOLD YOURSELF responsible for some of these errors you have made...

<-- $$$ Rumsfeld Says $$$
Trying to do too much yourself creates a bottleneck.

*** Markbnj says ***

<-- $$$ Rumsfeld Says $$$
Think ahead. Don’t let day-to-day operations drive out planning.

*** Markbnj says ***
and DONT let the fact that you CAN't seem to look ahead prevent you from
RESIGNING IMMEDIATELY!!!

<-- $$$ Rumsfeld Says $$$
Plan backwards as well as forward. Set objectives and trace back
to see how to achieve them.

*** Markbnj says ***
And see if you CAN achieve them if you've ALREADY blown all your objectives and your Commander in Chief away!

<-- $$$ Rumsfeld Says $$$
You may find that no path can get you there. Plan forward to see
where your steps will take you, which may not be clear or intuitive.

*** Markbnj says ***
AND if you ACTUALLY Re-visit YOUR previous decisions, you can EVEN admit you made a mistake PREVIOUSLY!!!

<-- $$$ Rumsfeld Says $$$
Don’t “over control” like a novice pilot. Stay loose enough from the flow that you can observe, calibrate and refine.

*** Markbnj says ***
OR "MANAGE" according to the traditional definition.

<-- $$$ Rumsfeld Says $$$
A President needs multiple sources of information.

Avoid excessively restricting the flow of paper, people, or ideas to the President, though you must watch his time.

If you over-control, it will be YOUR “regulator” that controls, not his. Only by opening the spigot fairly wide, risking that some of his time may be wasted, can his “regulator” take control.

*** Markbnj says ***
You've GOTTa be Kidding. You have not done this at all!
