But I digress. I'm 50. I remember when my parents and in-laws used to talk (and complain) about the 'schvatzes' (blacks in yiddish) when I was a kid. I am proud that we've had a great deal of progress since then. It's not complete, and it's MORONs like BILL OREILLY that set the human race back about 50 years by just opening their mouth.
End of digression!

And to top this off, he was talking to Juan Williams from NPR (on record) when he said this...
The talk show host's seemingly flattering comments about a famous black-run restaurant in Harlem illustrate his ignorance of black culture, some black leaders and scholars say.
"I couldn't get over the fact that there was no difference between Sylvia's restaurant and any other restaurant in New York City," said O'Reilly on the Sept. 19 edition of his nationally syndicated radio show.
"There wasn't one person in Sylvia's who [was] screaming,'M-Fer was, I want more iced tea," he told National Public Radio's Juan Williams. "[It] was like going into an Italian restaurant in an all-white suburb in the sense of people were sitting there, and they were ordering and having fun. And there wasn't any kind of craziness at all."
Of course we're in alien (commercial, RIGHT WINGED "fair and biased" FOX) territory here.
The last time a radio talk show host uttered racially charged comments, he was fired. -- CBS took shock jock Don Imus off the air after an uproar in the spring when he called the Rutgers women's basketball team "nappy-headed hos."
Of course at the time, of OReilly's dinner, he was the guest of the very same Rev. Al Sharpton, who STARTED the entire uproar leading to the IMUS firing. At the time, Rev. Al said: "We cannot afford a precedent established that the airways can commercialize and mainstream sexism and racism."
Sharpton said through a spokesman that he was "surprised" at O'Reilly's remarks and will confront the host on his television show tonight.
"Nothing Mr. O'Reilly said at the dinner itself was offensive," said Sharpton spokeswoman Rachel Noerdlinger.
Of course FOX is taking advantage of this, blaming the LEFT WING LIBERALS (yeah like me you SOB!)
Fox News Channel's Bill Shine told Newsday the flap is "… nothing more then left-wing outlets stirring up false racism accusations for ratings."
In defense of "Mr. Stupid-is", law professor Anita L. Allen, of the University of Pennsylvania says that O'Reilly is not necessarily a racist. Allen, who has studied and written on race relations told ABC News, that OReilly is ignorant, the product of a still-segregated country where black and whites seldom socialize.
Allen, who is black, continues creating a new hole for Reilly, when she says,
O'Reilly "doesn't realize dinner can be a civilized affair and we do use table napkins."
"It's 50 years later and we're still overcoming the days when blacks couldn't sit at a lunch counter at Woolworth's," said Allen. "More of us live in the white world, but many white people still avoid contact with black people in the ordinary habits of swimming, eating, dancing and listening to music."
She continues, saying...she is always surprised when she invites students to her home and learns that it's the first time they have ever dined with a black person. "We are not all screaming and singing rap music," she said. "It really is sort of pathetic."......There is not enough contact between the races."

Sorry Professor Allen. No, I've never dined with a black family, but then again I've never had a dinner in ANY professor's house either! I don't lead such a charmed life.
That doesn't mean I have deliberately avoided it. It's just that I've not been close enough to ANYONE to have been invited to dinner with them. And I agree it IS pathetic. But we have SOME progress. And I hope I have transmitted decent non-racist views to my children so that they can do the same, and eventually erase these problems.

A Teachable Moment
Melissa Harris-Lacewell, a professor of politics and African-American studies at Princeton University, feels that O'Reilly's comments should be a "teachable moment."
"Where does this come from?" she said. "When we live separate lives next to each other, the court was right in Brown [vs. Board of Education.] It breeds inequality."
"I don't know if O'Reilly should get a pass as a journalist on that level of ignorance," she said. "He's meant to be more curious about the world than his own experience."
Others were less circumspect about O'Reilly's comments. Seth Moglen, an associate professor of English and Africana studies at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, said O'Reilly's remarks were "disturbing," "deliberate" and "destructive."
"It was anything, but innocent," said Moglen. "It's a dangerous kind of speech that is veiled with respectability."
Though he stops short of saying the provocative journalist should be censored or fired, he argues that O'Reilly's employers should not give him a stage for speech rooted in racism and violence.
"What makes this so serious is that while he is pretending to say something positive about an important institution and black life in Harlem," said Moglen, "but what he really is doing is recycling a set of deeply toxic stereotypes rooted in slavery and violence in the U.S. This is nothing trivial at all."
Moglen, who is white, picks apart O'Reilly's language. The talk show host is really saying blacks are different from white people, obscene and "outside the moral and cultural mainstream of American life."
"He thinks he can get away with this," said Moglen. "I don't think we should be thought police, but there are very real implications of violence in these stereotypes and they do real damage."
"I hear from white students every day that it is fine for them use [the n-word], because they heard it on a rap song or they were just joking when they call a woman a whore," he said.
The LEAD rabel-rouser there was Reverend Al Sharpton, who was actually dining with Mr. OReilly at the time.
THIS MAKES me sick. Shit-can him Rupert Murdoch.
